Environment & Money Saving Tips - Part 4
By Christopher Tait

Environment PoppiesHere are a few more money, energy and environment saving tips for you to implement. Some require an initial outlay of money but all will help make a difference.

Drive with care
In terms of fuel consumption a car is best suited to driving below 59mph (95kph). Above this speed the fuel efficiency starts to rapidly drop. Keeping your tyres at the correct inflation level for the purpose that you are using your car for will help with fuel economy and potentially save lives. Driving with your windows and sunroof down increases drag on the car. More drag more fuel needed to make it perform to the required level. Air conditioning also uses additional fuel so use only when needed.

Printing
Lots of people prefer to read something when it is in a hardcopy instead of an electronic copy. We understand this as screens can be bad for your eyes used over a lengthy period. So if you need to print out a long report that is only going to be read once or twice then select the draft setting on your printer settings. This reduces the amount of ink required. After you have done with your print out turn it over and use it for note paper. Once filled recycle the paper and recycle the ink cartridges when they have run out.

Get rid of your Junk Mail
Everyone hates junk mail. Unwanted letters dropping through the letter box each and every day. Well you can stop it. Registering with the Mail Preference Service you can take your address off mailing lists. You can also add you phone number to the lists so you stop getting cold calls too. If you are signing up for a new product or require information about a product or service then ask for an electronic copy of the newsletter or product information instead.

Conference call or video conference
For you business people out there conference calling or video conferences will dramatically cut down on the need for travelling to see clients, customers and colleagues. We recognise the need for face to face business but on follow up meetings does it really need to be face to face? You may find that not only do you reduce energy waste via travelling but you will also increase the time you have to work as unnecessary travel has been removed from your schedule.
