Fly Tipping and Litter Dropping Rant
By Mad Man
On a short stretch of road from one small village to another I managed to count 1 mattress, 2 sofas, a child's bike and numerous bags of junk. This was along with the bits of litter that were caught in the bushes, trees verge and hedgerow.
First let us talk a little about the smaller litter. There are no paths that go along the side of this road and in the many years of driving along it I have seen very few people braving the bends to walk along it. So the little detective in my head believes that the majority of the litter has got there by people rolling down their windows and throwing it out.
Now as you are in some sort of transportation you will be heading to a place or eventually getting to a place that will have a bin. So please all do us a favour and help the countryside and the sides of our roads look a lot better DON'T THROW LITTER OUT OF YOUR WINDOW. If I see you doing it I'll be taking your registration plate and reporting you. I urge all others to do the same. Soon as some people start getting the fixed penalty notices and fines for littering the better.
Now onto the more serious issue of fly tipping. Large items at the side of the road not only look a complete and utter mess and are ruining the environment and possibly polluting water sources and feed for animals it is also ILLEGAL. So once again I urge any of you to take note of registration plates as well of descriptions or vehicles and people fly tipping and report them straight away to the council. They have teams to deal with this and the will prosecute those responsible.
If you are in need of items to be removed from your house that you can't get to the tip ensure that the White Van Man or the waste disposal firm that you are using is a Registered Waste Carrier with the Environment Agency. This way you will know that the waste will be correctly disposed of. If you fail to ensure that anyone removing waste on your behalf is a registered waste carrier than you are breaking the law and could be fined up to £5,000.
If you have extra waste and you're struggling to get rid of it then contact the Council, they will have a service where for a small fee they can assist you in removing your waste. This is so much better than dumping them, ruining our environment and getting yourself a criminal record with a huge fine at the same time.
