The Charnwood Hotel (Blyth) - Revisited

Sometime last year one of our reviewers paid a visit to the Charnwood Hotel in Blyth , Nottinghamshire. Recently Vincent Allen from the community friend team paid a quick visit to see if anything had changed and if any improvements has been made.

Every so often half-a-dozen of us go to a local eatery for a bar meal. We hadn't been to the Charnwood for a while so decided to give it another go as we had been pleased with the
previous experience there.

Getting somewhere to sit to have a bar meal is sometimes a bit of an ordeal, but we arrived
fairly early and there was plenty of space for us. The menu didn't seem to have changed at all since our last visit, though the specials board was different. Choosing wasn't too difficult; standard pub fare of steak pie, gammon, a variety of chicken dishes and a vegetarian option
were all served to our liking and, Butcher's Arms Woodsetts take note, they can cook chips.
The place is spotlessly clean, cutlery is polished to a blinding shine and the service is
effortless and efficient.

None of us ever has a starter or pudding these days, so the bill for the lot of us came to just
over £60 with drinks. If there is one criticism of the place then it is, as one of my dining colleagues said, that it is brightly lit and a bit impersonal. But it won't put us off going there again.

Update - March 2008

I recently visited the Charnwood hotel to see if anything had changed. I am happy to report that the food is still great quality and the service is still great.

As the for the décor, I would agree it is very hotel bar and can be too bright, but again don't let that put you off. The quality of food and great service more than make up for it.
