Damons (Sheffield) - Revisted
By Vincent Allen

Sometime last year one of our reviewers paid a visit to the Damons in Sheffield . Recently Vincent Allen from the community friend team paid a quick visit to see if anything had changed and if any improvements have been made.

Below is the original review:-

When going out to any restaurant, the process begins with making a reservation. The process was very straight forward once we had found the number, I must get around to adding it onto Community Friend . When we phoned up the first question we were asked was "Is it a special occasion or birthday?" on this occasion it was so we were told to bring in the birthday boy's birth certificate.

Driving into the car park, I was a little sceptical as to whether it would meet my expectations as I had heard a lot about this place and my expectations were high.

Our reservation was for 8:30pm but by 9:10pm we had drunk the bar dry and re-mortgaged my house several times, we were still waiting to be shown to our table. Upon ordering another pint from the bar's limited range of beverages, we were called and shown to our table.

The menu selection was your typical American style food; Burgers, Steaks, Ribs and
Chicken along with a selection of Sides (side orders). Not much choice for vegetarians but for the type of restaurant it is, you cannot expect too much.

Not long after we had sat down we were brought a generous portion of Bread and Butter by a young helpful waitress, who subsequently took our order.

The atmosphere in Damon's was very pleasant, if not a little noisy. For a Monday night if was very busy, even the waitress commented that "It's always busy at Damon's" normally that's a good sign of a good restaurant.

The décor is your typical American themed restaurant with photos and pictures of all
things American (fat, rich and dead people) Within minutes of ordering, our sides (side orders) arrived. A little strange when a bowl of salad arrives in front of you, do you have it as a starter or do you wait for the rest of your meals, choices...choices.. I didn't have long to wait before the rest of my meal arrivedwhich was good as my salad was getting lonely all on its own.

The meal was presented well and tasted great, I had the BBQ Chicken and BBQ Rib Combo, as Damon's if famous for it's ribs I thought I'd better try them. In fact it's making me hungry just thinking about it mmmmmmm.

Normally paying the bill at the end is the worst part and this was no exception. The total bill was not as bad as I thought and the bonus of the Birthday boy's free meal helped matters. At the end of the night the Birthday boy was presented with a free cake and the option of being sung happy birthday to, strangely he declined the offer.

The Verdict
Overall a pleasant experience, something a little different and a little more expensive than your typical chain pubs, but overall worth paying extra.

Good for special occasions, don't forget your birth certificate!

Update - March 2008
I recently visited Damons for a friends birthday. I am happy to report that the food is still great quality and the service is still great.

The menu has not changed and not much selection for vegetarians, but for all you meat eaters out there, it's still a great place to visit especially for a birthday celebration. Book to avoid disappointment.
