Monksbridge Farm (Dinnington) - Revisited
By Vincent Allen

Monksbridge Farm

Sometime last year one of our reviewers paid a visit to Monksbridge farm in Dinnington ( Sheffield ). Recently Vincent Allen from the community friend team paid a quick visit to see if anything had changed and if any improvements has been made.

Below is the original review:-

Monk's Bridge Farm is a fairly new pub-cum-diner on the outskirts of Dinnington, standing on the redeveloped grounds of the old colliery site. It's the second time I've been there, the first soon after it opened, when it was packed to the gunwales. This time things had settled down considerably and we could appreciate the building for what it is; spacious, clean, well designed and welcoming.

The MBF has an extensive menu and a carvery, and a specials board, so even the fussiest eater must, surely, be catered for. We are not fussy eaters, either of us, so we had a bit of a problem deciding what we should go for. The end result was one Vegetable Cannelloni, and one Steak, Guinness and Mushroom Pie.

The pie was served with, yes, the ubiquitous chips, carrots and mushy peas along with a good helping of gravy. Despite the number of times I moan on about the lack of imagination used by eateries in their selection of vegetables, I have to say I enjoyed these. The pie had a short crust top and bottom, rather than the more usual puff-pastry lid, and was satisfyingly tasty, though the pastry was a bit thick. My wife's pasta dish, served with garlic bread, was described as "delicious" by her.

The bar and serving staff were efficient and welcoming, the atmosphere in the place was most pleasant and the value for money was very good indeed.

Well worth a visit.

Update - March 2008

I recently visited Monksbridge Farm to see if anything had changed. All appears to be good and nothing much has changed.

They now have a new menu which has a wider range of vegetarian dishes and also a special's board.
