The Parish Oven (Thorpe Salvin) - Revisited
By Vincent Allen

The Parish Oven (Thorpe Salvin

Sometime last year one of our reviewers paid a visit to the Parish Oven in Thorpe Salvin. Recently Vincent Allen from the community friend team paid a quick visit to see if anything had changed and if any improvements has been made.

Below is the original review:-

Sometimes you hear rumours about places to eat but somehow you always end up being disappointed.... well not on this occasion.

We decided to try the Parish oven at Thorpe Salvin after hearing a few good reports. It was a Friday night so the place was busy with the Friday night drinking crowd and a few diners in
the separated dining area.

We ordered drinks at the bar and wandered into the dining area. We did get a little confused
as to how we should order; there were no menus on the tables or at the bar. But upon finding
a waitress we discovered a large board full of choices available and they would take our order
at our table shortly.

The menu board had a large variety of meals and not just your standard pub grub. The
delights of Haggis and Malaysian Chicken were available alongside the traditional
selections.

The waitress took our order at the table and we waited patiently. The food seemed to take
a while, but considering that it was freshly cooked and not your standard microwave chain
pub food, that was to be expected.

The meals arrived hot, very well presented and the portions were plentiful.

All in all this was a very pleasant meal and well worth the trip out. I would recommend
going early, before the Karaoke starts.

It's nice to see pubs with character and home cooked food still around. Well done Parish
Oven, don't ever sell up to the chain pubs.

Update - April 2008
I recently visited the Parish Oven for a meal. I am happy to report that the food is still great quality and the service is still of high quality.

The menu has not changed too much and they still have a great selection of specials on the board. Book to avoid disappointment.
