Van Dykes Hotel (Whitwell) - Revisited
Sometime last year one of our reviewers paid a visit to Van Dykes Hotel. We have recently received a further review on this establishment. Read on to find out how it fairs:

Review: My wife and 15 friends went here and had an appalling time at one of the
Entertainment evenings. They paid £35 each ! The food was poor and the Entertainment even poorer. The Staff were unhelpful when the problems were mentioned. I searched for any reviews and there does not seem to be anything at all out there. Do you have plans for reviewing this venue?

Steve. Thank you very much for your comments on the Van Dyke Hotel. We had no plans to visit but from your comments we are going to get down there shortly. Just so you know we never tell any venue that we are about to review them or when we are going to review them. We always send our review onto the venue after. This way they don't give us any special treatment and we get to see the place as it is.

Comments: Not been myself but our secretary went just before Xmas for her husband's work do and said it was appalling. Very expensive with what appeared to be frozen vegetables and bought puddings.

Comments: Hi Van Dykes Hotel, well what can I say about this establishment. Well here goes they could not organise a p*** up in a brewery for a start. There seems to me no manager or he hides when you ask to speak to him. I rang up to book a table for new years day lunch and I was told they would ring me back later on that evening as the table plan had not been sorted. Hello!!! do they preplan anything here!! I waited for a phone call but guess what, no phone call received. I rang back the following day Sunday before new year, to ask see if they had reserved my family a table, answer: you'll have to wait until we have planned the tables, we'll ring you back later this afternoon. I waited and waited but no phone call, so later in the evening I rang back again, to speak to the invisible receptionist, no receptionist in a hotel nice to meet and greet, NOT!!! I spoke to a bar person so I asked for the invisible manager, ooppps sorry he's not here and may not be around tomorrow!
Ring back tomorrow (New Years Eve may I add). Finally I got a phone call at 12 midday new years eve to let me know that they had done the table planning and they hadn't got a table, sorry. SORRY, is that it after all the telephone calls chasing the booking up, to be let down at the last minute because they can't sort out a table plan. Ohhhh dear, well Van DICKS than you for spoiling my New Years Day lunch celebrations, and leaving it to the last minute to inform me that theres no room at the inn. CHEERS!! (NOT)
