I must have spent what seems like decades watching the old fish and chip shop in Woodsetts being given a makeover, and was wondering if, or when, it would ever be completed. Well now it has, and I've been in, and I can give you my first impressions – at last!

It's small, but then it always was, however the space has been cleverly filled with pine-coloured tables and chairs and the whole place has been decorated to a very high standard. There are tables and seats outside for the poor souls who are still addicted to the weed.

Service is quick and attentive, and the menu has a decent selection of light bites and drinks – just right for a business that is starting out.

My wife and I called in for a coffee, knowing that it would take something special to satisfy us. Our tastes are both for strong coffee, and I know that some cafes think that a strong coffee is made by using a heaped teaspoonful of Bird's mild. Not so here! The cappuccinos were strong, made properly with fresh coffee and really hot milk. Perfect!

No doubt another of our reviewers will be calling in to try out the food and write a full review in the near future, but for the moment, if you want a cup of decent coffee, then this is the place to come.
